The design features her officer cap to represent her dedication to service and Veterans while also alluding to her healing process through working with the VFW. With her affinity for WWII insignia and retro style, the design features an Army star in between the date she enlisted (left) and her VFW membership number (right). Lastly, the design is detailed in bright red, serving as another reminder to be bold. - [PISTONS X HAS HEART - HOOPS FOR TROOPS](https://hasheart.us/pistons-hoopsfortroops2020/) - In partnership with Detroit Habitat for Humanity, [HAS HEART] paired Vietnam U.S. Navy Veteran Byron Tucker and Detroit Pistons in-house graphic designer Alex Trajkovski at the Pistons practice facility in downtown Detroit. - [Don't Look Back](https://hasheart.us/dontlookback/) - Reflecting on his advice that can be passed down to younger Veterans, “Don’t Look Back” depicts an eagle intensely focused on moving forward. Hand-illustrated by his great nephew and designer Jon Contino, inspiration was pulled from the variety of Uncle Willy’s WWII-era U.S. Army patches and insignia of that time. Although a vintage aesthetic, the message to live life to its fullest, try everything, to not look back and “fuhgetaboutit,” remains timeless. - [State 25: Wyoming](https://hasheart.us/wyoming/) - Release Date: TBD - [State 28: Utah](https://hasheart.us/utah/) - Release Date: TBD - [State 17: Texas](https://hasheart.us/texas/) - Release Date: TBD - [State 46: Ohio](https://hasheart.us/ohio/) - Release Date: TBD - [State 18: New Mexico](https://hasheart.us/newmexico/) - Release Date: Featured - [State 21: Nevada](https://hasheart.us/nevada/) - Release Date: TBD - [State 26: Montana](https://hasheart.us/montana/) - Release Date: TBD - [State 32: Missouri](https://hasheart.us/missouri/) - Release Date: TBD - [State 36: Mississippi](https://hasheart.us/mississippi/) - Release Date: TBD - [State 45: Kentucky](https://hasheart.us/kentucky/) - Release Date: TBD - [State 33: Kansas](https://hasheart.us/kansas/) - Release Date: TBD - [State 31: Iowa](https://hasheart.us/iowa/) - Release Date: TBD - [State 47: Indiana](https://hasheart.us/indiana/) - Release Date: TBD - [State 49: Illinois](https://hasheart.us/illinois/) - Release Date: TBD - [State 24: Idaho](https://hasheart.us/idaho/) - Release Date: TBD - [State 37: Hawaii](https://hasheart.us/hawaii/) - Release Date: TBD - [State 39: Georgia](https://hasheart.us/georgia/) - Release Date: TBD - [State 29: Colorado](https://hasheart.us/colorado/) - Release Date: TBD - [State 38: Alabama](https://hasheart.us/alabama/) - In Progress - [State 19: Arizona](https://hasheart.us/arizona/) - Release Date: TBD - [State 35: Arkansas](https://hasheart.us/arkansas/) - Release Date: TBD - [State 27: Alaska](https://hasheart.us/alaska/) - Release Date: TBD - [Guiding Ethos](https://hasheart.us/guidingethos/) - The spirit & path of healing flow through the red hand & heart that symbolize sacrifice and love, weaving its way around the hand and fingers, demonstrating the arduous path Veterans go through to heal when transitioning from their military service to civilian life. The shades of green represent the Army and her mission to help others through love. Monique hopes that when Veterans see the design, they understand the path they need to walk in order to heal & the light at the end of the tunnel. When civilians see the design, she wants them to understand that injuries come in all kinds of forms, but offering Veterans a guiding hand helps them on their healing path. - [L'Union](https://hasheart.us/lunion/) - Inspired by the Haitian flag and its message of strength in unity, the Kintsugi art of repairing broken pottery with gold, and the intent of dazzle camouflage to stand out rather than blend in, U.S. Navy Veteran Darrel Charles and graphic designer Brittany Ballinger collaborated to create the design “L’Union.” Proud of his Haitian heritage, Darrel shared with Brittany the motto from the country’s coat of arms: “L’union fait la force,” meaning, “unity makes strength.” - [Chase](https://hasheart.us/chase/) - Accepting of all that life has to offer, Bob doesn’t shy away from a good challenge. In fact, he lives his life as daringly as he can. In the design “Chase,” Andrew captured Bob’s playful personality through the bright red color against a dark green, inspired by the red and green ink he used in his hand-written flight logs. With an A-6 Intruder flying through the type, Andrew demonstrates how Bob views life as a rollercoaster ride. Together, they hope that “Chase” inspires others, in particular Veterans, to embrace all that life is, the good, the bad, and in particular, the challenges. - [Love Like This](https://hasheart.us/lovelikethis/) - In “Love Like This,” Scott depicts the Purple Heart medal in the form of protective wings overlooking design elements representing Bobby’s service, including a medical caduceus, infantry rifles, airborne insignia and five stars for his five fallen brothers. Above all, Bobby encourages each person to experience this type of love — the type of love that one would be willing to sacrifice themselves for the good of others. Have you ever felt a love like this?? - [Untold Stories](https://hasheart.us/untoldstories/) - Ray and Jill were initially inspired by the concept of redacted text, but even more so, they shared the desire to encourage the exact opposite of that: openly shared information. Owners of the letterpress studio Lead Graffiti, they began experimenting with their vast collection of letter blocks on their antique letterpress machines to create a design that could motivate Veterans to share their untold experiences with their loved ones. Even though most Veterans don’t directly engage in combat, each Veteran has a unique experience and perspective from serving that their sons and daughters, like Ray and Jill, would love to hear to help better understand and appreciate their service. - [Two Tales](https://hasheart.us/twotales/) - Through their design’s abstract silhouettes of a civilian and soldier, Steven and Stan hope to connect with others feeling broken, disconnected, and conflicted about the two versions of themselves, encouraging them to unite their renewed purpose and mission in life. - [Reflection](https://hasheart.us/reflection/) - Representing her personal path, her advocacy in helping to repeal the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy as a lawyer, and her work as a nurse and one of the country’s leading experts in transgender health as the Clinical Program Director of the Johns Hopkins’ Center for Transgender Health, the design features the colors from the Transgender Pride Flag, a flag symbolizing transgender pride, diversity, and rights. - [And So It Goes](https://hasheart.us/andsoitgoes/) - U.S. Army Veteran Manny Galvan collaborated with Jennifer Bernstein, Rutgers Newark professor and Principal/Creative Director of the agency Level, to create “And So It Goes,” an illustrative expression of Manny’s pragmatic outlook he cultivated while serving as a medic. - [Believe](https://hasheart.us/believe/) - Flying the highest of all birds, the eagle represents Sean’s strength in overcoming his fear of heights while the sun and the star are symbols pulled from the Ranger Crest and the lightning bolt from his position as a Forward Observer–the communicator between air and ground units. Above it all, the thirteen rays of light symbolize the thirteen bullets that struck Sean, eventually leading him to adopt his positive attitude of living with his injuries, seeing them as motivation to do more and constantly strive to improve. - [The Best Time](https://hasheart.us/thebesttime/) - A sailor through and through, the Navy’s anchor centers the design while also transmitting a signal, representative of Shelby’s work with radar in the Navy, and referencing her grandfather and father’s work in radio. Lastly, it symbolizes Shelby’s contagious optimism and the hope that her design inspires others to take the time to connect with those around them. - [Take Flight](https://hasheart.us/takeflight/) - Using the radar aviation symbol as a grid, Josh’s encouraging message to “Stay in the Fight / Take Flight” is emitted as a simple reminder that many have sacrificed so that others can live their best lives. The plane in the center represents the joy and peace Josh has found in flying, adorned with the spiral, a subtle nod to the intertwined snakes in the caduceus insignia, a reference to his position as a Navy Corpsman. - [XVII Carvings](https://hasheart.us/xviicarvings/) - Inspired by the personal memorial display Anthony built in his own home, Fish presented the Battlefield Cross carving in front of a Gold Star and U.S. flag in a rugged, hand-etched style that symbolizes the compassion that drives Anthony to create each carving for his fellow Marines and their families, making sure to let them know that their sacrifice and loss will never be forgotten or fade away in time. - [Transform](https://hasheart.us/transform/) - Inspired by a section of verse that reads, “Perhaps you were born for a time such as this…” (Esther 4:14), Adeliz’s faith in God is a daily reminder to trust in His plan for her. Adeliz hopes her design and story encourages others that there is purpose behind the pain, but you have to commit to finding out what that purpose is and trust that all things can and will work together for your good — keep pressing, keep pushing, keep transforming. - [Don't Panic](https://hasheart.us/dontpanic/) - His design is a visual representation of the diverse education he received from his experiences serving both during peacetime and in war. The quotes are deprived from some of his favorite books, small reminders to keep calm, accept the things that are out of your control, utilize time to better yourself, and to maintain a forward-facing, always-advancing, never-retreating mentality. - [Ca-Deuces](https://hasheart.us/cadeuces/) - In the design, balance is represented by the mortar being stabilized between two helmets: a traditional soldier’s helmet (left) and an aviation helmet (right). The two helmets also represent the dichotomies in Rachel’s life: soldier and civilian, ground medic and flight medic, care for others and self-care, teacher and student, among others. - [Total Sacrifice](https://hasheart.us/totalsacrifice/) - “What is your definition of a HERO?” Through a special alphanumeric communication code that was translated with the aid of his nurse, the Marine slowly spelled-out his response, “T-O-T-A-L S-A-C-R-I-F-I-C-E.” He did not consider himself a hero, but rather, those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. - [Relentless](https://hasheart.us/relentless/) - Inspired by the Ford Mustang he once drove, this midrun Bulldog from a vintage WWII Marines poster was combined with the American muscle car logo to represent his relentless spirit, courage, strength and loyalty. This design is a constant reminder to remain relentless and tenacious in all we do, just as this Marine continues his battle to regain movements and his voice. - [Life Is Doors](https://hasheart.us/lifeisdoors/) - Her design represents life’s journey. Each door is a symbol of her ever changing life, including the door knob changing orientation to accommodate her lost arm and a chapel door left open for eternity to symbolize the sudden and unexpected passing of her husband. Her collaborative design is a daily reminder to continue pushing forward, no matter what because when one door closes, another one will open. - [Thru The Fire](https://hasheart.us/thruthefire/) - Inspired by the tattoo on his severely burned arm of a phoenix and Del Toro’s arms raised amongst the flames, the design symbolizes his motto, “Through these flames I am stronger,” representing the strength, courage, and confidence to conquer each day. - [Adapt & Overcome](https://hasheart.us/adaptandovercome/) - His design represents his USCG service with a ship’s wheel that transitions into a bike chain, a symbol of his newly-found passion for cycling. Bike races has become one way Michael has been able to overcome his injury while also inspiring and benefiting others through numerous charity races. Michael’s desire to push on is a reminder that no matter what happens in life, you can adapt and overcome. - [Brothers Forever](https://hasheart.us/brothersforever/) - His design is a memorial to those who died on the dangerous roads of Iraq, who will never be forgotten for their sacrifice. The Latin motto “Saepius Exertus, Semper Fidelis, Frater Infinitas” translates to “Often Tested, Always Faithful, Brothers Forever.” - [The Law Of Sacrifice](https://hasheart.us/lawofsacrifice/) - A Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient, his design represents his New York City roots, his ideals of truth and fairness, and his continued outreach to his fellow Veterans. - [On Shoulders](https://hasheart.us/onshoulders/) - David’s design was inspired by the concept that by saving one life, you save an entire line of lives. All of those people are defined by the spaces between them and are connected in an organic structure, living “on the shoulders of the shoulders of others.” - [Best Damn Lemonade](https://hasheart.us/bestdamnlemonade/) - Life bent her, but Kathy did not break. She now climbs mountains, travels the world, rafts, sails, bikes, runs marathons, and more. Her daily motto is quite simple, “In all you do, be a Champion!” Always with a smile on her face that lights up the room, Kathy is a constant reminder to find a way to make lemonade no matter what life hands you. - [Thru Her Lens](https://hasheart.us/thruherlens/) - The photography “negative” represents her motto that through each negative experience, a positive outcome will appear. Overcoming her injuries, her quest is to win a medal participating in the Special Olympics and Wounded Warrior Games. Her birthplace in the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico is represented through the tropical beaches, palm trees, and blue skies embedded within her design as a reminder that we are never too far away from the comforts of home. - [No Place Like Home](https://hasheart.us/noplacelikehome/) - The symbols within the design represent this life-changing moment: the jagged lines symbolize the splitting of this humvee and the triangles symbolize how he was launched into the air from the vehicle, ultimately saving his life, while the dotted lines are his unconnected memories, the flowers are the daisy chain of IEDs that his vehicle hit, and the swirls are the whirlwind recovery process. His first memory was when he woke up in a hospital in his home state of Kansas, where the famous line “There’s no place like home,” had a much deeper meaning to Chris and his family. - [Victory](https://hasheart.us/victory/) - V.XX.MMXII, May 20th, 2012, then 29 year-old Michigan National Guard soldier, Eric Lund, and his team were hit by a roadside bomb. Flipping his vehicle over and pinning him underneath, Lund suffered numerous severe injuries that included the loss of both arms. He battled intensely in order to survive, and since then, he’s done much more than just that… - [All American](https://hasheart.us/allamerican/) - As represented within her design and in her quilting artwork, life is in the details. Surviving an ambush and living with PTS are just two stitches within the greater design of Juliet’s artwork of life – don’t let a couple of stitches make or break the greater picture of your life. Keep living. - [Invisible Wounds](https://hasheart.us/invisiblewounds/) - His design is a subtle homage to his city and represents a living memorial to his brothers and sisters in overcoming both the visible and invisible wounds from life. - [Life In Perspective](https://hasheart.us/lifeinperspective/) - Aaron served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy for a combined 14 years which included three tours in the Middle East. On his last deployment in 2011 as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team leader, an IED detonated 30ft. in front of him, leaving him blind but fortunate to be alive. - [Sketch For Hope](https://hasheart.us/sketchforhope/) - The three sets of stairs represent his different deployments and their duration in months, the spiral symbolizes the inner turmoil he continues to suffer due to severe PTS, the falling tower represents the RPG that he was hit by while on watch, and the football represents the group of fellow servicemen who were killed by a surprise attack while scrimmaging against each other on base. Yet above all of those negative experiences, the blue balloon represents his hope for a brighter future. - [Never Forgotten](https://hasheart.us/neverforgotten/) - His mid-century modern-inspired design represents his faded memories of the Korean conflict, painted with contemporary nuances of the emerging modernism of the time. The unification of South Korea, the United States, and efforts of the United Nations are shown in harmony to demonstrate the need of collaboration in order to achieve a goal greater than oneself. Together, we are stronger, and together we will never forget those who have sacrificed for our freedoms. - [Courage Sans Peur](https://hasheart.us/couragesanspeur/) - Witnessing first-hand the impact war has on the men and women who endure it, his design is meant to honor their warrior spirit while focusing on the human behind the mask in order to encourage fellow Veterans to remove their hardened exterior. The burden and pain of war can be crippling, but the true test of “courage without fear” is being able to heal and find a life of peace after it all. - [Parachute Flowers](https://hasheart.us/parachuteflowers/) - One lesson he shared with Terrance is the power in finding small moments of peace. Amidst the war in Vietnam, Bill recalled looking up to see his fellow paratroopers floating down towards him with their parachutes resembling flower blooms. In that moment, he felt a sense of peace and beauty that helped him push on. It’s within life’s smallest moments like this that we can find peace to help push through tough times. - [No Man Left Behind](https://hasheart.us/nomanleftbehind/) - His design juxtaposes the toughness of war in the Vietnam jungle with a softness that comes from his love of nature. As one of many Veterans that were exposed to Agent Orange, John continues to battle multiple health issues. Emily wanted to be sure to share his story through a depiction how the cycle of life can be both beautiful and gradually crippling. No matter the situation or its circumstances, their design is a reminder that we are all in this together. - [Final Act Of Deviance](https://hasheart.us/finalactofdeviance/) - The design demonstrates the overwhelming commotion of his faithful service. As the pieces of the exploded-view of the helicopter are further examined, its contents combine to commemorate Terry’s life of service with a special finger waving to the war-hawk as his final act of defiance. Giving Terry the last laugh before he goes out, the small mice are a reminder to live life as an individual and to not take yourself too seriously. - [Wisdom In Balance](https://hasheart.us/wisdominbalance/) - Larry’s design is an encouragement for Veterans to release some of their thoughts, feelings, and memories in an effort to find peace and a better balance within. - [Brave Enough](https://hasheart.us/braveenough/) - The entangled chaos of the woodland camouflage pattern represents the struggles Stephanie faced after she stepped up and was brave enough to serve her country. However, after having to deal with MST (Military Sexual Trauma) ontop of GWI (Gulf War Illness) from her deployment and the resulting PTS (Post Traumatic Stress), she had to now become brave enough to heal. - [Beat As One](https://hasheart.us/beatasone/) - Within his design, the drum sticks and music notes represent the impact music has made on their family and how it brought them all together again, while the heart symbolizes his wife’s belief that, “Love is the main ingredient needed to heal the invisible wounds of the heart, soul and mind.” His design is an encouragement for individuals, families, and communities to come together in love, patience, and empathy to help overcome their differences in order to live in harmony and “Beat As One.” - [Encrypted Repair](https://hasheart.us/encryptedrepair/) - His design seeks to bring awareness of the cyclical pattern among generations of Veterans from feeling “passed off” in the government system along with a lack of empathy the general public has for Veterans. - [Know The Otherside](https://hasheart.us/knowtheotherside/) - His design represents that we cannot truly appreciate the good times without also having lived through the bad times, and vice versa. The sun and the moon is a reinterpretation of yin and yang, how opposite forces can be complementary of each other. - [Remember To Live](https://hasheart.us/remembertolive/) - Her design contains a digital camouflage print scattered behind a flowing stream of water that builds into a tidal wave of emotions and overwhelming struggles. Inspired by one of Alesha’s most recent additions to her growing tattoo collection, the Latin phrase “Memento Vivere” translates to “Remember to Live,” a daily reminder to never forget to consciously choose to live life to the fullest. The flowers aid in helping us to pause, reflect, and “smell the roses.” We may not be able to control what life gives us, but we can decide how we react, respond, and move forward from it. Remember to live. - [Roots Run Deep](https://hasheart.us/rootsrundeep/) - Many more of those core values make up the collage of symbols that represent the many feelings he experienced while underwater during his deployments at sea, creating a tree with deep roots that are embedded with a handful of the things that matter most in life: family, integrity and service. - [Pride Runs Deep](https://hasheart.us/priderunsdeep/) - The stars represent his passion for country, the propellers define his service as a Machinist mate, the layers of waves in “Runs Deep” represent the ocean where he called home while deployed, and the American Flag acts as the anchor of his life of service. - [Camo Craft Night Recap + News Story](https://hasheart.us/camocraftnight-recap/) - We had a great turnout at our first collaborative "Camo Craft Night" in partnership with Treetops Collective and members of their meaningful sewing program. Each of the Veteran and artist designs are now available in custom die-cut vinyl stickers that are durable and protected from scratches, water, and sunlight. - [Failure Lab: Saugatuck](https://hasheart.us/conferencekeynotespeech-naswa-2/) - This Saturday, September 21, at 7:30PM at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts, our co-Founder and Executive Director, Michael Hyacinthe will be sharing a piece of his story as part of the Failure Lab speaker series. - [CONFERENCE KEYNOTE SPEECH](https://hasheart.us/conferencekeynotespeech-naswa/) - Recently, our Co-Founder and Creative Director, Tyler Way had the opportunity to share [HAS HEART] and the 50 States: Veterans + Artists United at the annual National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) Veterans Conference in Washington D.C. in front of over 500 Veterans representing 49 states and the U.S. territories. - [We Need a Tow [Vehicle]](https://hasheart.us/needatow/) - With only ELEVEN states (Tennessee, West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan) left to complete our nationwide mission, we need your help to secure a vehicle that will get us and our Airstream to where we need to go in order to partner the next Veteran with a graphic designer to help us share their meaningful story. - [Podcast Feature](https://hasheart.us/podcast-weareallhuman/) - Tyler Way and Kendra Clapp Olguin who have been taking [HAS HEART] across the country on the "50 States: Veterans + Artists United" tour were recently invited on "a little more human" podcast series hosted by Caton Vance and Eric Johnson from Gorilla. Hear insight from Tyler and Kendra share about quitting their careers in fashion, living and working on the road full-time, and some of their favorite moments traveling the country on behalf of [HAS HEART]. - [FUNDING NEEDS TO FINISH](https://hasheart.us/fundstofinish/) - With the support of many hands, we've been on the road for 545 days, driven 39,095 miles, visited 36 states, completed 38 projects, have worked with 46 Veterans and 117 creatives, and launched 14 projects with 24 more currently preparing to launch. Now, 18 months later, our initial funds have been fully utilized and deployed, causing us to pause the upcoming tour projects in order to raise the finances needed to complete the rest of our nationwide mission. - [OUR JOURNEY: STATE 15-FL](https://hasheart.us/ourjourney-fl/) - From Charleston, SC, we continued our way south through Georgia into St. Augustine, FL. We pulled into Anastasia State Park right along the Atlantic coast and set-up camp for two nights within a sandy jungle -- easily our favorite campsite thus far on the tour. Noel also became a big fan of this set-up because from every vantage point she could spy on birds up-close and even spotted those infamous little Florida lizards for the first time in her cat life. - [OUR JOURNEY: STATE 14-SC](https://hasheart.us/ourjourney-sc/) - Downtown Charleston was covered in our first taste of Southern-styled charm that included ivy-covered walls, cobblestone streets, weathered paint finishes, decorative rod-iron railings, oh, and a Pineapple Fountain. This fountain wasn't the only pineapple we saw. We began noticing on homes, gates, mailboxes, and more. But why? - [OUR JOURNEY: STATE 13-NC](https://hasheart.us/ourjourney-nc/) - To break up the long drive from Delaware, we spent a night in Cabela’s parking lot in Garner, NC. The next morning while we were getting ready to drive the last three hours to Charlotte, we got a knock on our door. As much as you can prepare for nights spent in parking lots by calling ahead and speaking to management to ensure that they allow overnight parking, you still kind of brace yourself for a knock on the door by some sort of official. - [OUR JOURNEY: STATE 12-DE](https://hasheart.us/ourjourney-de/) - To be honest, we arrived into Delaware the day before the project and then left the day after the project. It’s been our shortest stay in any state, but that’s meant to be a diss on Delaware. I’m sure there’s things to do and see, we just didn’t have the time. The little time we did have was spent on some much-needed Fall cleaning, including a drawer that Noel quickly filled, as any cat does. - [OUR JOURNEY: STATE 11-VA](https://hasheart.us/ourjourney-va/) - Visiting Arlington on Veterans Day was particularly special because it is the final resting place of all kinds of people with all sorts of service experiences. You go in knowing this but nothing can possibly prepare you for its size and scale. You hear and read statistics but you aren't often faced with a visual of it all. - [OUR JOURNEY: STATE 10-MD](https://hasheart.us/ourjourney-md/) - After finishing the DMV and Delaware state projects, we ended up back in Maryland but this time, along the Atlantic ocean. It was mid-November and surprisingly, a beautiful time to visit Assateague Island and National Seashore. - [OUR JOURNEY: STATE 09-NJ](https://hasheart.us/ourjourney-nj/) - Right on the border of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, we found our little end-of-summer sanctuary. It was mid-September, the warm days were fleeting, and I wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye to my favorite season. With some spare time before the state project, we drove through rural New Jersey to get to the wilderness of the Delaware Water Gap. - [OUR JOURNEY: STATE 08-NY](https://hasheart.us/ourjourney-ny/) - The element of a road trip for this “50 States: Artists + Veterans United” tour was crucial for us because we were determined to piece together the diversity of this country, both socially and geographically. New York City is a place that, although very relevant in the country’s culture and media, feels far away to most living in the United States. - [OUR JOURNEY: STATE 07-CT](https://hasheart.us/ourjourney-ct/) - We began our time in Connecticut nestled near a beautiful field of sunflowers. Those are words I can't say I've ever expected to type out, but it's true and we have photo-evidence to prove it. - [OUR JOURNEY: STATE 06-PA](https://hasheart.us/ourjourney-pa/) - Did you guys know that Pennsylvania is super hilly? Well, we did not. I remember driving to the Warwick Hills campground in Warwick, Pennsylvania, that was located just 45 minutes outside of Philadelphia, and being surprised by the winding roads and huge hills that turned into rolling hills when we were almost to Warwick. - [OUR JOURNEY: STATE 05-RI](https://hasheart.us/ourjourney-ri/) - Tyler and I have often noted how different this experience would be without Noel. When we shared the tour with our families, one of their responses was wondering what we were going to do with “the cat.” - [OUR JOURNEY: STATE 04-MA](https://hasheart.us/ourjourney-ma/) - We stopped at a Walmart in Plymouth for the night where I, um, well I had a moment. The next day was my birthday and it was the first time spending it away from my family. I found myself crying in bed while blowing up said balloons. The next day I was able to look back on the hilarity of it, crying in a Walmart parking lot... - [OUR JOURNEY: STATE 03-NH](https://hasheart.us/ourjourney-nh/) - After spending a couple nights in a holding pattern in parking lots at a Cabela's in Maine then a Walmart in New Hampshire, we finally packed up the car with drinks and snacks for the road and a hour or so drive later, we found ourselves already in Portsmouth - 68 miles later! We didn’t even get a chance to start eating our Peanut Butter m&m's. Sad, I know. - [OUR JOURNEY: STATE 02-ME](https://hasheart.us/ourjourney-me/) - After leaving Vermont, we headed east and rolled into White Mountain National Forest near Gilead, Maine. We stopped along the Wild River and immediately became aware of our surroundings: birds singing, not another person or car in sight, the freshest air we’ve ever smelled, the cool shade of the trees with sun occasionally poking through, and the peaceful sound of the flowing water. - [OUR JOURNEY: STATE 01-VT](https://hasheart.us/ourjourney-vt/) - After over a year of planning, countless emails, pitches, grant applications, conference calls, and meetings, the day to hook up the Airstream and hit the road arrived. Our journey to our first state project in Vermont included a pit stop at Niagara Falls to kickstart our new nomadic life on the road. - [AUSTIN, TX LECTURE EVENT](https://hasheart.us/austin-tx-lecture-event/) - As a part of the Texas state project of the "50 States: Artists + Veterans United" tour hosted by USAA in partnership with AIGA Austin, HAS HEART will share how the mediums of art, design, and fashion are uniting the military, creative, and civilian communities. - [AIGA DESIGN PARTNERSHIP](https://hasheart.us/aiga-hasheart/) - Years in the making, a partnership with AIGA and its 70+ chapters made up of over 25,000 creative-minded members is the key for the future of the HERO[series]. As a small nonprofit organization, [HAS HEART] is the connection point for a cross-cultural exchange between a Veteran and a designer. Having the largest organization for design means the doors are opening wide for more Veterans to share their stories. - [ERIC LUND UPDATE: DOUBLE ARM TRANSPLANT](https://hasheart.us/ericlundupdate-doublearmtransplant/) - In November, Sgt. (Ret.) Eric Lund received a call he's always been waiting for but never knew when it would come... On the other end of the line was a voice telling him they found a match and he and his family needed to catch the 4pm flight that afternoon from Grand Rapids, MI to Baltimore, MD. He was going-in for a double-arm transplant. - [OUR JOURNEY: [HAS HEART] HALLOWEEN](https://hasheart.us/ourjourney-hashearthalloween/) - One day while we stayed in a Target parking lot between state stops, Kendra bought a faux pumpkin along with some acrylic paints and brushes to bring a little Fall feeling to our Airstream -- [HAS HEART] edition, of course! - [OUR JOURNEY: A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP](https://hasheart.us/our-journey-a-good-nights-sleep/) - As amazing as it is living and working on the road, it can be quite exhausting. Living in an Airstream makes you think about things you may have taken for granted previously: location to sleep/where to park the trailer, water consumption, water waste, electricity, waste disposal - aka the stinky stuff. One thing we don't have to worry about anymore is if we'll be getting a good night's sleep. - [OUR JOURNEY: PLANNING THE IMPOSSIBLE](https://hasheart.us/planningtheimpossible/) - Planning and executing a fifty-state tour doesn't just happen overnight. This concept was brewing for almost two years and required a handful of life changes to prepare for this dramatic lifestyle change. And even then, it came together last minute with a few miracles and a handful of incredible people making it possible along the way. - [ALPHA INDUSTRIES x [HAS HEART]](https://hasheart.us/alphaindustries-hasheart/) - [HAS HEART] is proud, honored, and excited to officially announce our apparel partnership with American military heritage brand, Alpha Industries. - [ABOUT US: KENDRA + TYLER](https://hasheart.us/aboutus-tylerkendra/) - When Tyler approached me about the 50 States: Veterans + Artists United tour, I was a little hesitant. The thought of leaving my family for two years while living in a 200 square-foot box obviously was intimidating. - [ARTPRIZE 2017 EXHIBIT: TOP-5 NOMINATED](https://hasheart.us/artprize2017/) - ArtPrize 2017 is underway at our home base of Grand Rapids, MI -- marking our 6th annual HERO[series] exhibit and pop-up shop. Within the first week of it opening, it was selected as a Top-5 entry within the 2-Dimensional category as part of ArtPrize's Juror-Selected "Short List." - [STARBUCKS x HAS HEART POP-UP SHOP](https://hasheart.us/starbucks-hasheart-popupshop/) - [HAS HEART] + Starbucks Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room have collaborated for a special "Handpicked at the Roastery" pop-up shop featuring the design and artwork of U.S. Veterans from across the country from Sept 12-early November. - [50 STATES: TOUR SCHEDULE](https://hasheart.us/50states-schedule/) - We're taking our HERO[series] concept on the road to partner a Veteran with a graphic designer in all 50 states with the shared mission to tell their story through the mediums of art, design, and fashion. Find the state project nearest you... We'll see you on the road! - [CREATIVE MORNINGS TALK](https://hasheart.us/creativemorningstalk/) - For millions of Veterans, survival was more than just a "theme" but rather a life or death lifestyle, literally, that they had to adopt while deployed. On the contrary, for creatives, survival has a much different connotation with much, much less severe consequences. - [OUR STORY - PART IV: 50 STATES](https://hasheart.us/story-part-iv-50-states/) - After five years of annual HERO[series] design projects, [HAS HEART] has been able to refine the Veteran and artist collaboration process into a streamlined, efficient two-day design process -- making it easily repeatable over and over again in order to impact more Veterans, engage more creatives, and reach more civilians... - [OUR STORY - PART III: HERO[SERIES]](https://hasheart.us/ourstory-part03/) - Since that first project in 2011 when Tyler literally and figuratively became the creative arms and hands of a quadriplegic U.S. Marine, both he and Michael knew they had a new mission and duty to continue sharing Veterans stories through this powerful collaborative outlet. - [OUR STORY - PART II: THE MARINE](https://hasheart.us/ourstory-part02/) - Not long after their initial meeting, Hyacinthe met a local U.S. Marine who was paralyzed from the neck-down and lost his ability to speak due to injuries suffered in Iraq. Once he learned of the Marine’s love of t-shirts from his full-time nurse, Hyacinthe called Way and asked if he’d be interested in helping create a t-shirt design with the Marine... - [OUR STORY, PART I: UNITED OVER COFFEE](https://hasheart.us/ourstory-part01/) - When Michael Hyacinthe, an 8-year U.S. Navy Marine met with artist/designer, Tyler Way, for coffee one Saturday morning, they quickly realized the severe disconnect between their two worlds. At that point, they both knew they had to figure out a way to bridge that divide, which was their motivation behind establishing [HAS HEART]. ## Pages - [Home](https://hasheart.us/) - Facebook Instagram Vimeo Map-marker-alt We Utilize Creativity to Connect Veterans & Civilians Projects Explore the meaningful designs and stories created through the powerful collaborative process between veterans and designers. Combining this commitment to the importance of spirituality that provides her positivity, strength, & guidance, Monique has devoted her life to helping others through love. Working as a Combat Stress Recovery Program Specialist at the Wounded Warrior Project & starting her own nonprofit called FOB Hope, “Guiding Ethos” demonstrates her passion for helping homeless & at-risk Veterans through lending a helping hand & guiding them on the path of healing. The spirit & path of healing flow through the red hand & heart that symbolize sacrifice and love, weaving its way around the hand and fingers, demonstrating the arduous path Veterans go through to heal when transitioning from their military service to civilian life. - [Be Bold / Poster](https://hasheart.us/product/be-bold-poster/) - Poster / 18 x 24in. - [Don't Look Back / Decal](https://hasheart.us/product/dont-look-back-decal/) - [Parachute Flowers / Decal](https://hasheart.us/product/parachute-flowers-decals/) - [L'Union / Decal](https://hasheart.us/product/lunion-decal/) - [Best Damn Lemonade / Decal](https://hasheart.us/product/best-damn-lemonade-decal/) - [Encrypted Repair / Decal](https://hasheart.us/product/encrypted-repair-decal/) - [Sketch For Hope](https://hasheart.us/product/sketch-for-hope-decal/) - [No Place Like Home / Decal](https://hasheart.us/product/no-place-like-home-decal/) - Decal Sticker / 2.5 x 3in. - [Transform / Decal](https://hasheart.us/product/transform-decal/) - [Two Tales / Decal](https://hasheart.us/product/two-tales-decal/) - [Take Flight / Decal](https://hasheart.us/product/take-flight-decal/) - [Be Bold / Decal](https://hasheart.us/product/be-bold-decal/) - [Invisible Wounds / Decal](https://hasheart.us/product/invisible-wounds-decal/) - [Final Act / Decal](https://hasheart.us/product/final-act-decal/) - [Don't Panic / Shirt](https://hasheart.us/product/dont-panic-shirt/) - Don't Panic Apparel - [Don't Look Back / Shirt](https://hasheart.us/product/dont-look-back-shirt/) - Don't Look Back Apparel - [Law of Sacrifice / Decal](https://hasheart.us/product/law-of-sacrifice-decal/) - [Chase / Shirt](https://hasheart.us/product/chase-shirt/) - 50 States Project - South Carolina - [Beat As One / Decal](https://hasheart.us/product/beat-as-one-decal/) - [HH Icon / Hat](https://hasheart.us/product/has-heart-hat-logo/) - [Brave Enough / Shirt](https://hasheart.us/product/brave-enough-shirt/) - Brave Enough Apparel - [And So It Goes / Shirt](https://hasheart.us/product/and-so-it-goes-t-shirt/) - And So It Goes - 50 STATES project: NEW JERSEY - [No Man Left Behind / Shirt](https://hasheart.us/product/no-man-left-behind-shirt/) - [No Place Like Home / Sweatshirt](https://hasheart.us/product/no-place-like-home-crewneck/) - Cotton Crewneck / Printed in USA / Collaboration with Starbucks Reserve - [Adapt & Overcome / Sweatshirt](https://hasheart.us/product/adapt-overcome-crewneck/) - Cotton Crewneck Sweatshirt - [Be Bold / Sweatshirt](https://hasheart.us/product/be-bold-crewneck/) - Cotton Crewneck Sweatshirt - [Guiding Ethos / Sweatshirt](https://hasheart.us/product/guiding-ethos-crewneck/) - [Guiding Ethos / Shirt](https://hasheart.us/product/guiding-ethos-shirt/) - [Be Bold / Shirt](https://hasheart.us/product/be-bold-shirt/) - Cotton Shirt / Printed in USA - [Reflection / Shirt](https://hasheart.us/product/reflection-shirt/) - Reflection - [Wisdom In Balance](https://hasheart.us/product/wisdom-in-balance-shirt/) - Wisdom and Balance - [XVII Carvings / Shirt](https://hasheart.us/product/xvii-carvings-shirt/) - XVII - [Love Like This / Shirt](https://hasheart.us/product/love-like-this-shirt/) - Love Like This - [Two Tales / Shirt](https://hasheart.us/product/two-tales-shirt/) - Two Tales - [Parachute Flowers / Shirt](https://hasheart.us/product/parachute-flowers-shirt/) - Parachute Flowers - [Total Sacrifice](https://hasheart.us/product/totalsacrifice-shirt/) - In pursuit of an insurgent armed with a R.P.G. in the streets of Fallujah, Iraq, a group of Marines cornered him.
