ABOUT THE PROJECT TOUR
The mission of the 50 States: Veterans + Artists United working tour is to share Veterans’ stories from across the country. By taking the HERO[series] design process to each state by partnering a military Veteran with a professional graphic designer, [HAS HEART] is creating a platform for Veterans to express their experiences through art, design, and fashion.
In addition to pairing a Veteran with a designer, [HAS HEART] works with local creatives to document the powerful collaborative design process through photo, video, and writing. Once the entire project is complete, the fifty designs, stories, and collaborative processes will be compiled and published into a coffee table book, curated into a traveling art museum exhibit, edited into a documentary film, and produced into a collection of American-made consumer products whose proceeds will benefit the Veterans who co-designed them.
Until then, each of the designer and Veteran’s collaborative creative processes, along with our nationwide travels, are being documented and shared through social media updates (@hasheart.us) and “OUR JOURNEY” blog post updates, and occasional collaborative product releases with Alpha Industries and other product partners.
EACH PROJECT YIELDS:
50 STATES TOUR PREVIEW EXHIBIT – 2021
[HAS HEART] is proud to showcase the first art museum exhibit of the 50 States: Veterans + Artists United working tour at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts in southwest Michigan. Running from October 22nd to December 22nd, 2021, the exhibit featured the first 12 state projects from the yet-to-be-completed tour. If you weren’t able to visit, experience the exhibit virtually through our online photo gallery.
50 STATES TOUR PROJECT UPDATE – 2019
From July 2017 – January 2019, [HAS HEART] Co-Founder/Creative Director, Tyler Way and Communications Director (and wife/partner), Kendra Clapp Olguín, had been living and working on the road, traveling from state-to-state to partner one Veteran with one artist in all 50 states with the mission to share each Veteran’s story through the mediums of art, design, and fashion.
They made it to 39 states and conducted 41 projects before project funding ran dry. Due to this, [HAS HEART] has had to pause the tour until the needed amount to pay the participants and execute the remaining 11 state projects can be raised.
Tyler, Kendra, and [HAS HEART] are still fully committed to completing this nationwide mission and encourage any interested partners to CONTACT US to share these Veterans’ stories with the country.

SUPPORT OUR MISSION
Your support of any amount will help enable [HAS HEART] to pay a small token of appreciation to state project participants (Veteran, Designer, Photographer, Videographer, Writer) from each project in addition to minimal project costs and basic travel logistics.
It can start with something as simple as donating a cup of coffee to a Veteran participant or buying lunch for the six-member project crew — any level of support will go a long way in supporting [HAS HEART] in sharing a Veteran’s story.

HIGH-RANKING PARTNERS
Bringing together Veterans, designers, photographers, and videographers is only made possible through the power of collaboration and partnership. In addition to the numerous individuals that become a part of this journey and [HAS HEART] family, we are honored to partner with AIGA – the professional organization for design and their 70+ chapters located across the country.
The apparel partner for the “50 States: Veterans + Artists United” project is military heritage brand, Alpha Industries. Since 1959, Alpha Industries has produced iconic military flight jackets and vests for D.O.D. contracts and has since become an international fashion brand. They will be working alongside [HAS HEART] throughout the duration of the tour to co-produce and distribute the Veterans’ designs and stories, which will be produced and printed in the USA.
The Schultz Family Foundation’s mission is to “Unlock America’s potential, one individual and one community at a time,” and [HAS HEART] couldn’t agree with that more. Having funded two pilot projects (WA and OR) before launching the tour, the SFF have been early supporters since Day 01. [HAS HEART] recently received a second round grant for three additional state projects to impact more individuals and three more communities.
