On July 31st, the German Marshall Fund of the United States brought the “Whistlestops for Ukraine” tour to Grand Rapids with a private discussion with local veterans at the [HAS HEART] Coffee Shop.
This gathering on their multi-state tour, headlined by GMF President Heather A. Conley, fosters conversations on how the war in Ukraine affects local, national, and global communities. At each stop throughout the Midwest, representatives from local governments, organizations, businesses, and community groups discuss and learn more about how and why a free and sovereign Ukraine matters to America.
While Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States Oksana Markarova wasn’t able to join us, nor another member of the embassy due to contracting Covid-19, [HAS HEART] raised our hand to offer the impact from our HERO[series] program to help Ukrainian veterans as they eventually transition from the front lines back into a civilian lifestyle.
While we know there’s still plenty of work to be done throughout the US, specifically on our “50 States: Veterans + Artists United” tour, we hope our work can reach across borders and oceans.
